unOrdinary “Vigilante 3 Arc” (Episodes 196 through 199) Webtoon Review

October 10, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Major Spoilers are included in this Webtoon Review. Please read with caution.

On September 24, 2020, unOrdinary concluded its “Vigilante 3 Arc”. The “Vigilante” arcs are usually short, but they add tons to the plot momentum regarding EMBER, vigilantes, and the ability enhancers. This is the first “Vigilante” arc without Remi though—putting aside the ending—so it was indeed odd to exclude her, but it makes sense because Blyke wanted to train without anyone knowing.

The action sequences were great throughout this arc—as per usual given this is “Vigilante 3”—and the life-and-death stakes are particularly real for Blyke. Despite John threatening to “kill” everyone at school, I guess dying while fighting actual villains is different from almost dying against school bullies. Blyke and his team-up with a new vigilante also added more plot to the ongoing mysteries, and how these ability amplifiers are getting around to the lower districts.

The character focus on Blyke during a vigilante arc was interesting and a refreshing take compared to the other two vigilante arcs. I’m kind-of biased due to my love for Remi, so when I say I missed her doing vigilante work, it’s mostly because of that fan love. The artwork for Blyke, mysterious vigilante, and the villain with a yellow destructo disc power was incredible though. I just wished Remi was there to fight and… almost die? Actually, maybe I should be happy she wasn’t there.

A lot of fans—including myself—believe the new vigilante is Rei’s friend from the side-episodes. If he is the mysterious vigilante though, I hope that guy’s atoning for being a jerk during those side-episodes. An awesome hero redemption story would be cool to have in unOrdinary. I’m excited to see how “Vigilante 4 Arc”—whenever that will come—will tackle the next vigilante story.

Thanks for reading this Webtoon review, everyone! I’ll see you all when the next arc concludes! We’re heading back into toxic John’s story territory, so let’s brace ourselves.
