Da 5 Bloods Netflix Original Movie Review

September 05, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Da 5 Bloods Netflix Original Movie Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 28, 2020, I decided to watch Da 5 Bloods in honor of Chadwick Boseman’s death. After hearing he passed away that same night to colon cancer, I gave up sleep—which I do anyway for writing or reading—to watch this amazing movie on Netflix. I needed to know him for something other than Black Panther, which isn’t a bad thing at all, but Chad Boseman was more than just Marvel’s Black Superhero.

The God of High School Episode 9 “cursed / corner” Anime Review

September 05, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The God of High School Episode 9 “cursed / corner” Anime Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Picking up where the previous episode left off, Jin Mori went off on his own to rescue his grandfather Jin Taejin from his kidnappers. However, this put his team at a serious disadvantage for their next round. Since Han Daewi is suspended for the next couple fights, it’s up to Yoo Mira to hold off her opponent—and win—to give Jin Mori enough time to make it back in time. The next opponents are wearing the same robes as the main villains Nox, so the stakes are even higher to win this round.

Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 13 “Garudamon of the Crimson Wings” Review

September 05, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 13 “Garudamon of the Crimson Wings” Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The latest Digimon Adventure Reboot episode almost felt like a filler episode due to the little plot momentum happening, but we were given more Sora so that was awesome and worthwhile. Going off what we saw in episode 11—the WereGarurumon episode—I’m really glad we saw more of Sora’s caring nature as its own thing rather than a barrier to Matt’s character development.

Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 12 “Lilymon Blossoms” Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

With Tai and Matt getting their Ultimate Digimon in the last two episodes, it was time for the other DigiDestined to get some well-deserved screen time. This episode focused on Mimi and Palmon, picking up where we left off in the previous episode’s cliffhanger when they fell down the hole. Tai and Izzy screamed her name down the hole, but Mimi and Palmon decided to find another way out of their predicament. Along the way, we learn more about Mimi’s character and her sincerity for life.

The God of High School Episode 8 “close / friend” Anime Review

August 29, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The God of High School Episode 8 “close / friend” Anime Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The God of High School is gradually revealing more context on Park IIpyo and his connection to Jin Mori’s grandfather Jin Taejin. This episode also followed up on Han Daewi interfering in Jegal Taek’s fight, and how the punishment was Han Daewi getting suspended for a few fights in the GOH Tournament. While this episode didn’t have any real action in it aside from the match between Park IIpyo and Gwim Gi, there was more context given to help the audience understand the characters more.

Lucifer Netflix Original Season 5 Part 1 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 21, 2020, Lucifer Season 5 Part 1 dropped on Netflix. I binge-watched all eight episodes throughout that weekend and garnered some thoughts. Season 5 picks up couple months after Lucifer decided to leave Earth—and his first love Chloe—in order to take over Hell for everyone’s safety.

My Hero Academia Volume 13: “A Talk About Your Quirk” (Chapters 109 through 118) Manga Review

August 29, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

My Hero Academia Volume 13: “A Talk About Your Quirk” (Chapters 109 through 118) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On August 1, 2020, I started and finished reading My Hero Academia’s Volume 13. This was another excellent volume dedicated to My Hero Academia’s superpowered society going through a major change—with both the heroes and the villains—in light of All Might’s forced retirement. While writing this review, I realized there was a lot more going on than I realized.

My Hero Academia Volume 12: “The Test” (Chapters 100 through 108) Manga Review

August 29, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

My Hero Academia Volume 12: “The Test” (Chapters 100 through 108) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Volume 12: “Test” leans heavier on the lighter side of things, given what we experienced in Volume 11. The students are back in school and adjusting to dorm life, but they also have to pick up on their training to prepare for the Hero Provisional License Exam! For that exam, they will need to resume the Quirk training they started during the “Forest Camp Training Arc”. They will also need to create “Ultimate Moves” as part of their school and training regimen. The students are pumped and excited to get stronger!

My Hero Academia Volume 11: “The End of the Beginning, The Beginning of the End” (Chapters 90 through 99) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On July 29, 2020, I started and finished reading My Hero Academia’s Volume 11—the most emotional manga book yet. This particular volume yanked on the reader’s heartstrings and kept going until they snapped, especially mine when I played the OST music that went along with all those powerful scenes.

My Hero Academia Volume 9: “My Hero” (Chapters 72 through 80) Manga Review

August 29, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

My Hero Academia Volume 9: “My Hero” (Chapters 72 through 80) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Volume 9: “My Hero” was the most intense volume yet. The students were pushed to their limits—especially the ones who had failed their final exams in the previous volume—during training sessions to develop their Quirks. After everything they’ve been through so far in this series, the teachers at U.A. decided to jumpstart the students’ training so they’ll be better prepared for future villain attacks.

My Hero Academia Volume 8: “Yaoyorozu: Rising” (Chapters 63 through 71) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

This volume in particular also gives us more character development on certain characters like Momo Yaoyorozu—the centric character—and Minoru Mineta during the “Final Exams Arc”, which was set-up in the previous volume. Minoru Mineta—the perverted character—had wonderful growth that stayed true to his lewd nature.

Picking up where Volume 6: “Struggling” left off, Todoroki was giving the hero speech to Iida during their battle against Hero Killer: Stain—reminding him that he couldn’t forget who he wanted to be. This was a powerful character moment for Todoroki, who had recently started the healing process by visiting his mother in the hospital and working with his father in order to understand them—and himself—better.

My Hero Academia Volume 6: “Struggling” (Chapters 45 through 53) Manga Review

August 23, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

My Hero Academia Volume 6: “Struggling” (Chapters 45 through 53) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Volume 6: “Struggling” kicked off the student internships. Many students like Uraraka, Todoroki, and Midoriya seek out internships to learn something they were lacking as shown during the “U.A. Sports Festival Arc”. Uraraka went to intern with Pro Hero Gunhead to study hand-to-hand combat, Todoroki interned for his father Endeavor to learn why he was the number two hero, and Midoriya interned under Gran Torino, the former teacher of All Might, in order to master One for All.

My Hero Academia Volume 5: “Shoto Todoroki: Origin” (Chapters 36 through 44) Manga Review

August 23, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

My Hero Academia Volume 5: “Shoto Todoroki: Origin” (Chapters 36 through 44) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Volume 5: “Shoto Todoroki: Origin” picked up with the one-on-one tournament that will determine the strongest first-year student. Starting with Bakugo vs Uraraka was an interesting—and explosive—tactic that subverted the audience’s expectations. While everyone in the stands—classmates included—was booing Bakugo for “being too harsh” on a frail little girl, Bakugo declared, “there was nothing frail about her” and treated Uraraka as a worthy opponent regardless of her gender. Uraraka gave it everything she had in this fight, throwing the audience off with her ultimate attack. Uraraka’s need to prove herself was a worthy motive that earned her Bakugo’s respect… because he now remembered her name instead of simply calling her “round face”.

My Hero Academia Volume 4: “The Boy Born With Everything” (Chapters 27 through 35) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Volume 4: “The Boy With Everything” continued the “U.A. Sports Festival Arc”, kicking off the next event and later a one-on-one tournament to determine the winner of the Sports Festival. Kohei Horikoshi did an amazing job on the tournament’s structure, and showing everyone use their Quirks creatively during the Calvary Battle event.

My Hero Academia Volume 3: “All Might” (Chapters 18 through 26) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Volume 3: “All Might” picks up where Volume 2: “Rage, You Damned Nerd” left off, with All Might arriving on the scene to save everyone from The League of Villains. The first part of the volume wraps up the conflict between Class 1-A and Tomura Shigaraki in a satisfying manner. The story did an excellent job on raising the stakes and showing the students how scary it is to fight against supervillains.

My Hero Academia Volume 1: “Izuku Midoriya: Origin” (Chapters 1 through 7) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Written and drawn by Kohei Horikoshi, the main series follows Izuku Midoriya—nicknamed Deku—and his dream to become a hero someday. In a world where 80% of the superhuman society had powers—dubbed Quirks in this series—the dream to become a superhero became way more common. Sadly enough, Deku fell into the 20% category, effectively making him an average human being—Quirkless.
