July 26, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba “Mugen Train Arc” (Chapters 54 through 69) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The “Mugen Train Arc” centered around Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko boarding the Infinity Train in search of Flame Pillar Kyojuro Rengoku. Tanjiro wished to speak to him about the Dance of the Fire God, a breath-style technique that Tanjiro used to defeat Rui in the “Natagumo Mountain Arc”.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba “Rehabilitation Training Arc” (Chapters 45 through 53) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 28, 2020 I started the “Rehabilitation Arc” and finished it on June 29. The sixth story arc of the manga series centered around Tanjiro, Zentisu, and Inosuke recovering from the injuries they sustained in the previous arc. Reading Demon Slayer has been an amazing experience so far. I have officially caught up to where the anime ended.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba “Natagumo Mountain Arc” (Chapters 28 through 44) Manga Review

July 19, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba “Natagumo Mountain Arc” (Chapters 28 through 44) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 27, 2020, I started and finished the “Natagumo Mountain Arc”—the fifth story arc—of the manga series. The arc picked up right after Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke recovered from the “Drum House Arc” in a nice old lady’s house. There, a crow requested their presence at Natagumo Mountain to investigate demon sightings. Traveling now as a team, Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke run into deadly encounters against Rui—a member of the Twelve Kizuki—and his Demon Spider Family.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba “Drum House Arc” (Chapters 20 through 27) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 27, 2020, I started and finished the “Drum House Arc”—the fourth story arc—of this amazing manga series. This arc centered around Tanjiro meeting other Demon Slayer members named Zenitsu and Inosuke, as they investigated a strange house occupied by three demons. One of the demons—Kyogai—was a former member of the Twelve Kizuki with a tragic human background. Well, all the demons in this series have a tragic human background, but this one was a failed writer so it hit different for me.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba “Asakusa Arc” (Chapters 14 through 19) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 26, 2020, I started and finished the “Asakusa Arc”—the third story arc of the manga series. Picking up where we left off in the previous arc (“First Mission Arc”), Tanjiro ran into Muzan, the demon who killed his family and turned Nezuko into a demon. Tanjiro also learned Muzan was posing as a human living with a wife and child in plain sight. Tanjiro vowed to kill Muzan and avenge his family while restraining a man turned into a demon—by Muzan—as a distraction.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba “First Mission Arc” (Chapters 10 through 13) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 26, 2020, I started and finished the “First Mission Arc”—the second arc of the manga series. This was a short arc, but it gave us insight into the life of a demon slayer and what Tanjiro will be facing in the future. This arc centered Tanjiro’s first mission as a demon slayer. After passing the Final Selection, Tanjiro was sent to a town to investigate the disappearance of young girls. This led to Tanjiro encountering Swamp Demon, the one responsible for the girls’ disappearances.

Stargirl 1x09 “Brainwave” Episode Review

July 19, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Stargirl 1x09 “Brainwave” Episode Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

After the amazing two-parter dedicated to kid antagonist Cindy Burman (Meg DeLacy), Stargirl naturally shifted its course on Henry Jr. (Jake Austin Walker). For those interested in my thoughts for “Shiv Part One” and “Shiv Part Two”, the episode reviews are here and here. While Henry Jr. wasn’t as compelling as Cindy Burman, he still has the potential to become an interesting character. Right now, it’s just difficult to get onboard with him due to his father being Brainwave and how he hurt Yolanda by spreading her nudes around school. However, Henry Jr. is officially connected to the plot and being tugged at both sides.

Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 6 “The Targeted Kingdom” Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Mimi and Palmon have joined the team in this episode. Similar to her time with the Gekomon and Otamamon back in the original series, Mimi had declared herself a Queen in a Tanemon Village. After a brief misunderstanding—Mimi thought Sora and Tai were fruit thieves trying to steal from the village—and learning they all had Digivices, everyone becomes friends. Izzy is still in the Network World with Kabuterimon, relaying all the information he can regarding the digital attack on Tokyo.

The God of High School Episode 1 “Set Up / Stand Up” Anime Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Alright. The God of High School anime is finally here! On July 6, 2020, I watched the first episode, which was an amazing introduction into the series. I have high hopes for the anime based on what I watched and how the first episode was already putting in the effort to fix the Webtoon’s initial mistakes from the beginning arc. If you’re interested in my first Webtoon review of The God of High School, the “Introduction Arc” is here.

Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 5 “Holy Digimon” Review

July 12, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Digimon Adventure REBOOT Episode 5 “Holy Digimon” Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

After four episodes of reliving our Digimon childhood, episode 5 “Holy Digimon” was dedicated to giving us—the audience—some exposition on the Digital World, the Holy Digimon, and the DigiDestined’s Digimon’s background. They have actual backgrounds. This was also the episode where Tentomon finally digivolved into Kabuterimon. At this point, it appears like all the Digimon will have their own unique Digivolution sequences. Agumon’s Digivolution sequence is my favorite sequence so far.

unOrdinary “Corruption Arc” (Episode 180 through Episode 185) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 17, 2020, unOrdinary’s “Corruption Arc” concluded. I have been reading this Webtoon series weekly since I caught up, so I hadn’t realized this arc—only five episodes— had ended. I hadn’t written an unOrdinary review post in a while, so it wasn’t actively on my radar.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 Review

July 12, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 10, 2020, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’s season 5 dropped on Netflix. I finished the fifth season—15 episodes—on June 13, 2020. Boy, it was worth the wait! The series was bonkers and meta than ever during this fifth season. In my opinion, this was their best season in a while. This was a show that learned from its biggest mistake in season 4, which was character overload. In season 4, there were too many characters running on the screen and that stuffed a lot of the episodes with too many stories at various times. However, this season had tightened the writing—and focus—on our main characters.

Stargirl 1x08 “Shiv Part Two” Episode Review

July 12, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Stargirl 1x08 “Shiv Part Two” Episode Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Let me start the episode review by saying this: “Shiv Part Two” was a brilliant follow-up to “Shiv Part One”. Stargirl is an amazing superhero series that didn’t fall into any predictable or ridiculous tropes involving a superhero’s identity. Cindy (Meg DeLacy) proved to have some semblance of intelligence when she visited Courtney (Brec Bassinger) after she got out of the hospital post-amazing fight scene. Cindy visiting Courtney’s house and hanging in her bedroom had so much tension, that I could feel Courtney’s clear discomfort through the television screen. Of course, it was also my favorite scene in the entire episode.

Stargirl 1x07 “Shiv Part One” Episode Review

July 05, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Stargirl 1x07 “Shiv Part One” Episode Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Stargirl’s latest episode was a near perfect hour of television. This episode had a character focus on both Courtney (Brec Bassinger) and mean girl Cindy Burman (Meg DeLacy) as they embarked on similar journeys as hero and villain respectively. It was similar to what Buffy the Vampire Slayer had done with Buffy and Faith’s antagonistic relationship; they were two sides of the same coin.

Avatar The Last Airbender Book Three: Fire Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 29, 2020, I finished Avatar the Last Airbender for the third or fourth time. The final book delivered a satisfying conclusion that solidified the series as a timeless piece, with its plots and themes being ever-present during the coronavirus pandemic. Book 3 picked where Book 2 ended: Aang and the rest of Team Avatar escaping Ba Sing Se and trying to restore balance to the world.

This is my second time rewatching the entire series—on Netflix—for those unaware. I finished the second season of Avatar The Last Airbender on June 22, 2020. Unlike the first season (Book One: Water), I thought the writing, characterization, themes, and serialized storytelling was tighter and cleaner.

Avatar The Last Airbender Book One: Water Review

July 04, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Avatar The Last Airbender Book One: Water Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Avatar The Last Airbender is a historic kids’ show that aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008. I watched this for most of my childhood and fell in love from beginning to end with the characters, their world-building, the plot, and the magic system. The series centered around a rookie Waterbender—Katara—and her older brother Sokka finding a young boy and his bison—Appa—frozen in an iceberg.
