The Promised Neverland “Human World Arc” (Chapters 179 through 181) Manga Review

July 04, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The Promised Neverland “Human World Arc” (Chapters 179 through 181) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 20, 2020, I finished the final arc. I have finished The Promised Neverland. My journey with The Promised Neverland has ended. I have been broken emotionally. The last three chapters wrapped up the series, explained the “reward” Emma had to paid for their freedom, and it also brought closure for the characters. Honestly, I had the time of my life reading this manga series. I will be watching the anime series at some point in the near future, so keep on the lookout for an anime review too.

The Promised Neverland “Return to Grace Field Arc” (Chapters 160 through 178) Manga Review

July 04, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The Promised Neverland “Return to Grace Field Arc” (Chapters 160 through 178) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 20, 2020, I finished reading this beautiful arc. The “Return to Grace Field Arc”—the tenth story arc of the manga series—was incredibly emotional. Peter Ratri kidnapped all the kids at the Paradise Hideout and took them to Grace Field Orphanage, which resulted in Emma, Ray, Norman, and their group making plans to rescue them. The “Return to Grace Field Arc” gave this series a full-circle vibe going into the final arc. The Promised Neverland was an incredible journey from beginning to end.

The Promised Neverland “Imperial Capital Battle Arc” (Chapters 146 through 159) Manga Review

July 04, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The Promised Neverland “Imperial Capital Battle Arc” (Chapters 146 through 159) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 20, 2020, I started and finished the “Imperial Capital Battle Arc”—the ninth story arc of The Promised Neverland. This arc was emotionally driven by the original three protagonists’—Emma, Ray, and Norman’s—desire for a better future. I really did miss seeing all three of them together. Learning what Norman—and the other enhanced children subjects—had to go through in the experimentations was heartbreaking. There was a lot of payoff happening in this arc.

The Promised Neverland “Seven Walls Arc” (Chapters 131 through 145) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 20, 2020, I started and finished the “Seven Walls Arc—the eighth story arc of the manga series. The Promised Neverland continuously kept the plot momentum going with Emma and Ray traveling to the Seven Walls, where Him—the Demon God’s actual name—awaited. It was all for the sake of stopping their friend Norman from exterminating all demons at the Royal Capital.

The Promised Neverland “King of Paradise Arc” (Chapters 113 through 130) Manga Review

June 27, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The Promised Neverland “King of Paradise Arc” (Chapters 113 through 130) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

I started and finished reading this arc on June 19, 2020. The “King of Paradise Arc”—the seventh story arc of the manga series—gave us an unexpected reunion. After the events of the “Cuvitida Arc”, Emma, Ray, and the other children arrived at the Paradise Hideout in search of William Minerva. There, the kids are reunited with an alive Norman, who was posing as William Minerva. The emotional reunion between Emma, Norman, and Ray was potent and well-earned.

June 27, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The Promised Neverland “Cuvitida Arc” (Chapters 96 through 112) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

I finished reading the “Cuvitida Arc”—the sixth story arc of the manga series—on June 19, 2020. This arc picked up right after the “Goldy Pond Battle Arc”. The two groups—the Grace Field kids and the Goldy Pond kids—have converged into one huge group. Time jumps happened throughout this arc, showing Emma and the other kids bonding with each other in addition to adults Lucas and Yugo—formerly known as Mister. They made a home together in the underground shelter.

The Promised Neverland “Goldy Pond Battle Arc” (Chapters 75 through 95) Manga Review

June 27, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The Promised Neverland “Goldy Pond Battle Arc” (Chapters 75 through 95) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

I started and finished this arc on June 18, 2020. The “Goldy Pond Battle Arc”—the fifth story arc of the manga series—showed Emma vowing to end the demons hunting children—called Poachers—for inhumane sport. She teamed up with the Gold Pony Resistance—lead by an adult named Lucas—in order to secure everyone’s future. Emma will never give up on anyone. The plot twists, strategies, and the fight scenes were the highlights of this arc—of the entire series, but that was obvious at this point.

The Promised Neverland “Search for Minerva Arc” (Chapters 53 through 74) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

I read this arc on June 16, 2020 and finished on June 17. The “Search for Minerva Arc”—the fourth story arc—picked up with Emma, Ray, and the rest of the children meeting an Adult stranger in an underground bunker. Apparently, he had been living there alone for the past 13 years. He also had no intention of sharing, but Emma and Ray were able to outsmart him, forcing him to help out with their mission to reach Goldy Pond, where William Minerva might be located.

The Promised Neverland “Promised Forest Arc” (Chapters 38 through 52) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 16, 2020, I finished the third story arc. The “Promised Forest Arc”—the third arc of the manga series—took place directly after Emma, Ray, and the rest of their siblings—the ones above age 4—have escaped Grace Field Orphanage. In this arc, the characters find themselves against an unknown world—the forest—filled with unknown enemies wanting to kill them in addition to pursuers chasing after them.

The Promised Neverland “Introduction Arc” (Chapters 1 through 9) Manga Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Welcome to my first manga review! On June 12, 2020, I started The Promised Neverland—the manga series, not the anime—and finished the “Introduction Arc”. I will be hitting the anime once I read the first couple arcs first. After reading the first nine chapters though, I will be coming back for emotional seconds.

Stargirl 1x06 "The Justice Society" Episode Review

June 27, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Stargirl 1x06 "The Justice Society" Episode Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The latest episode had a team-oriented focus on both heroes and villains. The major players for the rest of the season have been presumably assembled, and now their plans have been put into motion. When Pat (Luke Wilson) learned the truth about Courtney (Brec Bassinger) recruiting other kids to make the new JSA, he demanded all the stuff back out of fear for their safety. Of course, Courtney understood her step-father’s anger and frustration, but the kids had already bonded with their cool toys.

The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness 10th Anniversary Edition Book Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

I started reading this book—written by Michelle Alexander—on June 12, 2020 and finished on June 15, 2020. Basically, I spent my weekend processing and understanding America’s long history of racial inequality. Originally published in 2010 and republished in January 2020 for its Tenth Anniversary, the book centered around the U.S.’s criminal system and the harsh realities of its racial control, particularly against Black men.

13 Reasons Why Netflix Original Season 4 Review

June 21, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

13 Reasons Why Season 4 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

After four seasons—49 episodes—of traumatic events, 13 Reasons Why finally concluded and allowed its characters to go free. The season began with a funeral scene, foreshadowing that one of the main characters will die by the end of this journey. The show was low-key banking on horror themes throughout the final season. There were vivid hallucinations—acting like literal ghosts—of Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice) and Monty (Timothy Granaderos) that haunted more than one character.

unOrdinary “Responsibility Arc” (Episode 168 through Episode 179) Webtoon Review

unOrdinary “Responsibility Arc” (Episode 168 through Episode 179) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

On June 3, 2020, I read the “Responsibility Arc” and found myself almost caught up with the series. This was the last completed arc of season two. unOrdinary is currently on arc 20—no official title yet. As a result, this will be my last review on unOrdinary for a while. Thanks everyone for taking the time out of their days to read my reviews and/or start reading unOrdinary. I hope—like The God of High School and Tower of God—that this Webtoon will receive an anime adaptation someday.

unOrdinary “Fallout Arc” (Episode 156 through Episode 167) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The first season two arc was a great payoff to the time I invested in unOrdinary. This arc dealt with the aftermath of Joker defeating the Royals in the season one finale. The whole social hierarchy was in shambles, and it led Fake Jokers rising to attack more students.

unOrdinary “Side-Story: Rei” (Rei’s Beginning 1 + 2) Webtoon Review

unOrdinary “Side-Story: Rei” (Rei’s Beginning 1 + 2) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

After finishing season one on June 1, 2020, I immediately read this filler arc. “Side-Story: Rei” wasn’t too bad. Getting to know Rei’s—Remi’s older brother’s—background was a good reminder that the fight against the Wellston’s social hierarchy was happening long before John showed up at the school. The two bonus episodes centered around Rei as a freshman—before he became King—and his friendship with another student named Kuyo. This was basically the origin story of how Rei wasn’t going to let the social hierarchy dictate his behavior after he saw what it did to his friend Kuyo.

Stargirl 1x05 "Hourman and Dr. Mid-Nite" Episode Review

June 21, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Stargirl 1x05 “Hourman and Dr. Mid-Nite” Episode Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Stargirl delivered a Halloween-themed episode. The episode also started with a flashback scene involving Rex Tyler / Hourman (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) and his wife Wendi (Kristi Brock) leaving their son Rick Tyler (Cameron Gellman) with Matt Harris (Adam Aalderis), Wendi’s brother and Rick’s Uncle. This scene also revealed how Pat retrieved all his JSA information from Rex Tyler via mail. The ending to the flashback also showed Rex and his wife getting killed by Solomon Grundy, making it look like a car accident.
