How To Get Away With Murder 6x06 "Family Sucks" Episode Review

November 03, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

How To Get Away With Murder Season 6 Episode 6 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

“Family Sucks” is the title and theme of the episode. A rare episode where the characters drive the plot instead of the plot driving the characters. Michaela is gradually becoming amazing in the final season and finds closure with her biological father, who was clunky at best. Why did they have to throw in a unseen romantic history between Solomon and Annalise? It doesn’t seem necessary.

Grey's Anatomy 16x06 "Whistlin' Past the Graveyard" Episode Review

November 03, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 Episode 6 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

There was a lot going on in this episode. The “Meredith” storyline is losing steam, but Jo Karev, Alex Karev, and Owen Hunt are dealing with a bad blood supply at Pac-North. It’s pretty fun, but the overall purpose of Pac-North is still unclear. But with new investors at that graveyard hospital and Grey-Sloan’s damaged reputation. Maybe the place will rise later in the season.

The Good Place 4x06 "A Chip Driver Mystery" Episode Review

November 03, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

The Good Place Season 4 Episode 6 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The Good Place is finally getting to the human experiments in this episode. The events of this story are told through Michael and Bad Janet as they try to understand what makes humans work. Six months have also passed, but that makes me wonder if it’s “linear” or “Jeremy Bearinmy” six months. This random question might be my brain exploding like Chidi’s when he noticed the dot.

The Flash 6x04 "There Will Be Blood" Episode Review

November 03, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

The Flash Season 6 Episode 4 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The Flash had a Halloween episode with appropriate horror tropes to properly introduce Rosso’s villainous Bloodwork, but it continued the strong pace of the previous episodes. This week’s episode also focused on the bonds between the primary characters as Crisis On Infinite Earths looms over everyone.

This Is Us 4x06 "The Club" Episode Review

November 03, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

This Is Us Season 4 Episode 6 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

This episode had good parallels and different arcs using the golf course as a center piece this time instead of dinner. Jack and his father-in-law hit the golf course, then Jack and a Young Randall go to a golf course, and finally… Randall and his Council Men visit the golf course to play. Apparently, Randall and Jack don’t play golf very well in any of these three scenarios, but we’re learning things. There were other developments in this episode too: Kate and Toby are dealing with weight again, Kevin is still helping Uncle Nicky and has a sexy encounter with Cassidy… of course he did.

Arrow 8x03 "Leap Of Faith" Episode Review

October 30, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Arrow Season 8 Episode 3 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Arrow ended on a massive cliffhanger that will likely change the unnatural course of the final season, and the overall Crisis On Infinite Earths event. However, before we talk more about it, we must discuss what actually went down in this episode. Thea Queen, Talia Al Ghul, and Athena from the Thanatos Guild returned in this episode to pay tribute to the League of Assassins, which is essentially a dedication to the present day season three. It also resolved Thea and Talia’s stories on the show, giving them closure on their demons and fathers Ra’s Al Ghuls.

Supergirl 5x04 "In Plain Sight" Episode Review

October 30, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Supergirl Season 5 Episode 4 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

James Olsen was given a lackluster send off. For the past four years, I’ve disliked what the writers have done to his character after demoting him off being Kara’s love interest post-season one. By the way, that was a bad call because James Olsen never recovered from it. Making him the CEO of Catco, then a vigilante named Guardian, Lena’s love interest, and whatever they did to him in season four… it was time to call it quits. James Olsen needed love. That was a horrible build-up to my actual episode review because I actually did like the episode, “In Plain Sight”, delivering on some great storylines and character dynamics that included Jimmy Olsen.

How To Get Away With Murder 6x05 "We're All Gonna Die" Episode Review

October 28, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

How To Get Away With Murder Season 6 Episode 5 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Frank is nearly killed in this episode. We are shown flashbacks to reveal context on what exactly happened to Frank after his run-in with Xavier Castillo. He appears to be getting over Laurel though, and falling back in love with Bonnie. I honestly don’t care who Frank ends up with, but Bonnie needs to figure out how to be happy before the show ends. I’m Team Bonnie for finding your own happiness.

Grey's Anatomy 16x05 "Breathe Again" Episode Review

October 28, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 Episode 5 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Ben and Miranda are expecting a baby! Jo has a flashback episode that gives closure to her mental health storyline! Meredith’s going to jail! Everything is going so well for the first two characters. Alex hasn’t been given much screentime lately, and that makes me worried. Richard Webber fights off Gemma’s advances, and his rejection was of her was well-done. I hope it’s the end of that craziness.

The Good Place 4x05 "Employee of the Bearimy" Episode Review

October 28, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

The Good Place Season 4 Episode 5 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Eleanor’s role as The Architect is made abundantly clear in this episode when compared to Tahani’s constant need to help and mess it up. Jason and Michael go rescue Janet, and the episode restructures the lens to resemble more a high school reunion, which was an amazing way to look at it, and having Jason there helped balance the nonsense.

Legacies 2x03 "You Remind Me Of Someone I Used To Know" Episode Review

October 27, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Legacies Season 2 Episode 3 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The annual football game between Mystic Falls High and Salvatore School returned in this episode. The new headmaster, Professor Vardemus, uses this opportunity to show how superior the supernatural kids are compared to the normal humans. Half the kids love him, and the other half find him suspicious. Josie is starting to take a liking to the headmaster, who wants nothing more but for the kids to reach their full supernatural potential. Meanwhile, Hope hunts the monster of the week and helps Rafael become human again once she learned what happened to him.

Supernatural 15x03 "The Rupture" Episode Review

October 27, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Supernatural Season 15 Episode 3 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The first three episodes resolved “The Rupture” Chuck ripped open in Hell, but it came at a great cost. The season premiere sacrificed respect for Jack being dead by introducing a demon to take his body, the second episode sacrificed Kevin Tran’s peace in Heaven, and this episode killed off two major characters. Usually, we’d have “hunt” filler episodes and this would-be a “mid-season” moment, but the final season threw out the rules book like it did everything else.

This Is Us 4x05 "Storybook Love" Episode Review

October 27, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

This Is Us Season 4 Episode 5 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

This Is Us has kicked off with another question: What happened to teenager Kate and her boyfriend? The “we didn’t see it” cliffhanger at the end of the episode threw us all in for a loop. The flashback scenes of the episode were heavy as it connected to the other present day storylines unfolding: Kevin’s arc with Uncle Nicky and Cassidy, Randall and Beth with Tess’ inherited panic attacks, but Kate and Toby weren’t featured as much in this episode, which made the dinner scenes the centerpiece of the episode.

October 23, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

The Flash Season 6 Episode 3 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The Flash has figured out its plot, pacing, and characters. For three weeks in a row, the show has shown us that they figured out what to do. Granted, they’re racing toward a crossover, Crisis On Infinite Earths, that will change up the Arrowverse as a whole.

Arrow 8x02 "Welcome To Hong Kong" Episode Review

October 23, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Arrow Season 8 Episode 2 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

This week’s episode trip down memory lane was slightly weaker, compared to the season premiere last week. While I thoroughly enjoyed this episode’s dedication to Oliver’s time in Hong Kong, it was undeniably a sore area in the show’s history, so having Oliver reflect on his time with Maseo and Tatsu was more about the lesson and less about seeing these characters: China White and Tatsu.

Supergirl 5x03 "Blurred Lines" Episode Review

October 22, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Supergirl Season 5 Episode 3 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

This week’s episode explored boundaries for the characters… and the audience in a way. Nia and Brainy are exploring romantic boundaries, Kelly’s… too trusting and that might be a problematic character issue. J’onn’s arc is exploring the lines he crossed in the past, and the sins he committed to the Martian culture. Kara and Lena explore their dynamic post-Supergirl identity reveal. Most of the storylines muddle the message.

Batwoman 1x03 "Down Down Down" Episode Review.

October 22, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Batwoman Season 1 Episode 3 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

While the exposition is lighter and not in the beginning of the episode, Batwoman continues to stagger behind the rest of the Arrowverse shows. While the characters—Alice, Kate, and Mary—are well-written and entertaining, the plot side of things is basically retreading familiar ground done on Arrow. However, Kate (Ruby Rose) has started wearing the red wig, giving birth to the persona she had in Elseworlds.

How To Get Away With Murder 6x04 "I Hate The World" Episode Review

October 21, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

How To Get Away With Murder Season 6 Episode 4 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Michaela Pratt took center stage as the hunt for her biological father, a big lawyer named Solomon Vick, comes to a head in the latest episode. Nobody messes with her, especially Gabriel, as she does whatever it takes to punish her father for abandoning her at birth, and the consequences it had on her life, not taking kindly to his feminist speech at Ted Talk-like presentation that’s kind-of sexist in itself.

Grey's Anatomy 16x04 "It's Raining Men" Episode Review

October 21, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 Episode 4 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Meredith Grey’s desire to write a story backfired. Of course, it did. Grey-Sloan Memorial is suffering the fallout of Meredith’s story being taken out of context: she pitched ideas to a some media outlet (I didn’t listen for the specifics), and that media basically bullet-listed her ideas and shot the hospital with them. The hospital is under fire and losing patients / funding. All the fun things about wanting to maintain a polished reputation.

Legacies 2x02 "This Year Will Be Different" Episode Review

October 21, 2019 by Aaron Ngo

Legacies Season 2 Episode 2 Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Hope Mikaelson went full-on Buffy in this week’s episode. Oddly enough, Alexis Denisof was introduced in this episode as the new headmaster of the Salvatore School, bringing Harry Potter vibes. I love this series for not caring or being self-aware of the similarities to this overdone genre. Danielle Rose Russell conveys heartbreak so beautifully… reuniting with Landon Kirby this episode was almost too much for her to bear.
